Huddersfield a Potted History: A large and historic market town located in the English county of West Yorkshire, UK, Huddersfield is at present the eleventh largest town in the UK, housing a population of around 168,000 (2017). The town of Huddersfield is positioned halfway between Manchester and Leeds being about 28 miles north-east of Manchester and 20 miles to the south-west of Leeds and is some 191 miles distance from London.

Huddersfield is part of the Kirklees metropolitan borough and is the largest town in this borough. It lies in the valleys of the rivers Holme and Colne and these two rivers meet to the south of the town adjacent to the University of Huddersfield.

Huddersfield is a mainly industrial town, famous over the centuries for the production and manufacture of textiles, wool, chemicals, electric motors and sheet metal. Huddersfied was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 where it was identified as Oderesfelt and Odresfeld.

Huddersfield has a proud tradition for sport and is the birthplace of Rugby League, which happened at Huddersfield's George Hotel on August 29th 1895, when twenty two clubs split from the RFU. Also in that year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was established. Their football team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded soon after in 1908 and is currently in the Premier League (2017), they were victorious in the FA Cup in 1922 (1-0 against Preston North End) and were the first English club to win 3 successive league titles in 1924,25 and 26).
