Huddersfield a Short Guide: A historic and huge market town located in the English county of West Yorkshire, In the UK, Huddersfield at the current time is the United Kingdom's eleventh largest town, housing a population in excess of 168,000 (2017). Huddersfield is a chiefly industrial town, recognized over the years for the manufacture of textiles, electric motors, sheet metal, chemicals and wool. Huddersfield was the scene of considerable violence and unrest at the time of the Industrial Revolution when a group of textile workers called the Luddites, afraid of losing their jobs on account of greater mechanisation, damaged weaving machinery and mills and even murdered mill owners. Huddersfied was listed in the 1086 Domesday Book where it was called Oderesfelt and Odresfeld.

The town has a proud tradition for sport and is where Rugby League was born, which came into being at the George Hotel on August 29th 1895, when 22 clubs broke away from the Rugby Football Union in a dispute over the payment of players. Also in that year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was established. Their football team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded some years later in 1908 and is at present in the Premier League (2017), they won the FA Cup in 1922 and also won three successive league titles.

The area has been the birthplace of a number of notable Huddersfield including the likes of Derek Ibbotson, former PM Harold Wilson, James Mason and Chris Balderstone (footballer and cricketer).
