Huddersfield a Brief Guide: A huge and historic market town located in the English county of West Yorkshire, In the United Kingdom, Huddersfield is actually the United Kingdom's 11th largest town, being home to a population of approximately 168,000. The town is positioned roughly halfway between Leeds and Manchester being about 20 miles to the south-west of Leeds and 28 miles to the north-east of Manchester and is 191 miles driving distance from London.

Huddersfield is the administrative centre for the Kirklees metropolitan borough and is the most populous town in this borough. It sits in the valleys of the rivers Holme and Colne and these two rivers meet to the south of the town near to the University of Huddersfield.

Huddersfield is a primarily industrial area, famous over the centuries for the manufacturing of chemicals, electric motors, sheet metal, textiles and wool. It was the scene of significant unrest at the time of the Industrial Revolution when a group called the Luddites, fearing the loss of their jobs owing to more and more mechanization, destroyed mills and weaving machinery and in some cases even attacked and killed mill owners. Huddersfield has been settled for over four thousand years, starting with Neolithic man and advancing through Brigantes, Romans, Anglo-Saxons and Normans to the present day. Huddersfield has been the site of two ancient forts, a Roman fort at Slack (Outlane) and a hillfort at Castle Hill. Huddersfied was listed in the 1086 Domesday Book where it was referred to as Oderesfelt and Odresfeld.

The town has a proud tradition of sporting excellence and is the birthplace of Rugby League, which happened at the George Hotel in Huddersfield on August 29th 1895, when twenty two clubs broke away from the Rugby Football Union in a row over players being paid. In that year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was established. Their soccer team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded in 1908 and currently holds a place in the Premier League (2017), Huddersfield won the FA Cup in 1922 (beating Preston North End 1-0) and were the first English club to win 3 successive league titles.
