About Huddersfield: A historic and huge market town located in the English county of West Yorkshire, UK, Huddersfield is at present the UK's eleventh largest town (not including cities), housing a population of around 168,000 (2017). The town is placed halfway between Manchester and Leeds being about 28 miles to the north-east of Manchester and 20 miles to the south-west of Leeds and it is approximately 191 miles from London.

Huddersfield is the administrative centre of the metropolitan borough of Kirklees and is the largest urban settlement in that borough. It stands in the valleys of the River Holme and the River Colne and these 2 rivers meet to the south of the town near to the University.

Huddersfield is a chiefly industrial town, well known over the years for the production of electric motors, sheet metal, textiles, wool and chemicals. It was the scene of much unrest during the Industrial Revolution when Luddites, faced with losing their livelihood as a consequence of greater mechanization, destroyed mills and their machines and even murdered textile mill owners, notably one William Horsfall. Huddersfield has been the site of two ancient forts, a late Bronze Age or early Iron Age hillfort at Castle Hill and a Roman fort at Slack (Outlane). Huddersfied was documented in the 1086 Domesday Book where it was referred to as Odresfeld and Oderesfelt.

The Huddersfield of Huddersfield has a proud tradition with regards to sports and is where Rugby League was born, which came into being at Huddersfield's George Hotel on the 29th August 1895, when 22 clubs split from the RFU (Rugby Football Union). In that year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was established. Their football team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded in 1908 and currently holds a place in the Premier League (2017), they were victorious in the FA Cup in 1922 (at Stamford Bridge) and were the first English club to win 3 successive league titles (1923-1926).
