Review of Huddersfield: A historic and huge market town situated in the county of West Yorkshire, England, in the United Kingdom, Huddersfield is currently the United Kingdom's eleventh largest town, being home to a population of somewhere near 168,000. The town of Huddersfield is positioned roughly midway between Manchester and Leeds being about 28 miles north-east of Manchester and 20 miles to the south-west of Leeds and it is some 191 miles distance from London.

Huddersfield is included in the Kirklees metropolitan borough and is the largest settlement in the borough. It lies in the valleys of two rivers, the River Holme and the River Colne and the confluence of these two rivers is just to the south of the town near to the University.

Huddersfield is a chiefly industrial town, recognized over the centuries for the manufacturing of sheet metal, textiles, electric motors, wool and chemicals. The town was the scene of much unrest during the Industrial Revolution when a group known as the Luddites, terrified of losing their jobs because of increasing mechanization, demolished mills and their machines and even went as far as murdering textile mill owners, notably one William Horsfall. The Huddersfield area has been the site of settlements for more than four thousand years, beginning with Neolithic man and advancing through Brigantes, Romans, Anglo-Saxons and Normans to modern times. Huddersfield has been the site of two ancient forts, an Iron Age hillfort at Castle Hill and a Roman fort at Slack (near Outlane). Huddersfied was listed in the Domesday Book (compiled in 1086) where it was called Odresfeld and Oderesfelt.

Huddersfield has a long sporting tradition and is where Rugby League was born, which happened at the George Hotel on August 29th 1895, when 22 clubs split from the Rugby Football Union in a bitter disagreement over payments to players. In the same year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was established. Their soccer team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded some years later in 1908 and is currently in the Premier League (2017), Huddersfield Town were winners of the FA Cup in 1922 (beating Preston North End 1-0) and three successive league titles.
