Review of Huddersfield: A historic and huge market town situated in the English county of West Yorkshire, In the UK, Huddersfield is presently the United Kingdom's 11th largest town, being home to a population of close to 168,000 (2017). The town is placed about halfway between the cities of Manchester and Leeds being about 28 miles to the north-east of Manchester and 20 miles to the south-west of Leeds and is 190 miles from London.

Huddersfield is included in the Kirklees metropolitan borough and is the largest settlement in the borough. It lies in the valleys of the rivers Colne and Holme and these 2 rivers meet to the south of the town beside the University of Huddersfield.

Huddersfield is a largely industrial town, recognized over the centuries for the manufacture and production of chemicals, sheet metal, textiles, electric motors and wool. The town was the scene of much unrest during the Industrial Revolution when a group of textile workers called the Luddites, fearing the loss of their livelihood because of the threat of mechanisation, damaged weaving machinery and mills and even went to the extreme of attacking and killing mill owners, notably one William Horsfall. Despite the predominance or manufacturing the biggest employer in Huddersfield today is the University.

Huddersfield has been settled for over 4,000 years, starting with Neolithic man and proceeding through Brigantes, Romans, Anglo-Saxons and Normans to modern times. Huddersfield has been the site of two ancient forts, an Iron Age hillfort at Castle Hill and a Roman fort at Slack (near Outlane). Huddersfied was recorded in the Domesday Book (written in 1086) where it was referred to as Odresfeld and Oderesfelt.

The Huddersfield of Huddersfield has a long tradition with regards to sports and is the home and birthplace of Rugby League, which occurred at Huddersfield's George Hotel on August 29th 1895, when twenty two clubs broke away from the RFU. The same year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was established. Their soccer team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded a few years later in 1908 and currently holds a place in the Premier League (2017), they won the FA Cup in 1922 (at Stamford Bridge) and also won 3 successive league titles (1923-24, 1924-25 and 1925-26).
