Review of Huddersfield: A historic and large market town situated in the county of West Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom, Huddersfield is actually the United Kingdom's 11th largest town (not including cities), having a population of around 168,000. The town is positioned halfway between the cities of Leeds and Manchester being about 20 miles to the south-west of Leeds and 28 miles north-east of Manchester and is approximately 190 miles drive from London.

Huddersfield is within the Kirklees metropolitan borough and is the most populous town in that borough. Huddersfield lies in the valleys of the rivers Colne and Holme and the confluence of these two rivers is to the south of the town close to the University.

Huddersfield is a chiefly industrial town, famous over the centuries for the production of chemicals, textiles, electric motors, wool and sheet metal. Huddersfied was mentioned in the 1086 Domesday Book where it was referred to as Oderesfelt and Odresfeld.

The town has a proud tradition of sporting excellence and is where Rugby League was born, which occurred at Huddersfield's George Hotel on the 29th August 1895, when 22 clubs broke away from the RFU in a dispute over payments to players. Also in that year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was founded. Their football team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded a few years later in 1908 and is presently in the Premier League (2017), Huddersfield Town were winners of the FA Cup in 1922 (1-0 against Preston North End) and were also famous for winning 3 league titles on the trot.
