Review of Huddersfield: An immense and historic market town located in the county of West Yorkshire, England, in the UK, Huddersfield is actually the UK's 11th largest town, being home to a population of about 168,000 (2017). Huddersfield is positioned halfway between the cities of Manchester and Leeds being about 28 miles north-east of Manchester and 20 miles south-west of Leeds and is some 190 miles driving distance from London.

Huddersfield is the administrative centre for the Kirklees metropolitan borough and is the largest urban area in this borough. Huddersfield lies in the valleys of 2 rivers, the River Colne and the River Holme and the confluence of these 2 rivers is just to the south of the town beside the University of Huddersfield.

Huddersfield is a mainly industrial town, renowned over the centuries for the manufacture of chemicals, sheet metal, textiles, electric motors and wool. Huddersfield has been the site of settlements for over four thousand years, starting with Neolithic man and progressing through Brigantes, Romans, Anglo-Saxons and Normans to modern times. Huddersfield has been the site of two ancient forts, a Roman fort at Slack (Outlane) and an Iron Age hillfort at Castle Hill. Huddersfied was documented in the Domesday Book (compiled in 1086) where it was called Odresfeld and Oderesfelt.

The Huddersfield of Huddersfield has a long tradition for sport and is the home and birthplace of Rugby League, which came into being at the George Hotel in Huddersfield on the 29th August 1895, when 22 clubs broke away from the Rugby Football Union in a disagreement over players being paid. The same year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was established. Their soccer team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded a few years later in 1908 and is currently in the Premier League (2017), Huddersfield Town were the winners of the FA Cup in 1922 and were the first English club to win three successive league titles in the 1920's.
