Review of Huddersfield: A historic and large market town situated in the county of West Yorkshire, England, UK, Huddersfield at the current time is the UK's eleventh largest town (not including cities), having a population of about 168,000 (2017). Huddersfield is placed about midway between Manchester and Leeds being about 28 miles to the north-east of Manchester and 20 miles south-west of Leeds and it is approximately 191 miles distance from London.

Huddersfield is part of the metropolitan borough of Kirklees and is the largest settlement in this borough. Huddersfield stands in the valleys of the River Colne and the River Holme and the confluence of these two rivers is to the south of the town beside the University of Huddersfield.

Huddersfield is a chiefly industrial town, well known over the years for the manufacture and production of chemicals, wool, textiles, electric motors and sheet metal. The Huddersfield area has been settled for over 4,000 years, starting with Neolithic man and proceeding through Brigantes, Romans, Anglo-Saxons and Normans to modern times. Huddersfield has been the site of two ancient forts, a Roman fort at Slack and an Iron Age hillfort at Castle Hill. Huddersfied was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 where it was referred to as Odresfeld and Oderesfelt.

Huddersfield has a proud sporting tradition and is the birthplace of Rugby League, which took place at Huddersfield's George Hotel on the 29th August 1895, when twenty two clubs split from the RFU (Rugby Football Union). Also in that year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was founded. Their soccer team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded 13 years later in 1908 and is at present in the Premier League (2017), Huddersfield Town won the FA Cup in 1922 and three successive league titles in the 1920's.

The area has been the birthplace of a number of well known Huddersfield including footballer and cricketer Chris Balderstone, Harold Wilson, Hollywood actor James Mason and Derek Ibbotson (athlete).
