Huddersfied was listed in the Domesday Book of 1086 where it was referred to as Odresfeld and Oderesfelt.

The Huddersfield of Huddersfield has a long tradition for sport and is where Rugby League was born, which came into being at Huddersfield's George Hotel on August 29th 1895, when 22 clubs broke away from the RFU (Rugby Football Union). In the same year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was founded. Their football club Huddersfield Town AFC was founded 13 years later in 1908 and currently holds a place in the Premier League (2017), Huddersfield Town were the winners of the FA Cup in 1922 (at Stamford Bridge) and were also famous for winning three successive league titles in the 1920's.
