Review of Huddersfield: An immense and historic market town situated in the county of West Yorkshire, England, in the United Kingdom, Huddersfield is actually the United Kingdom's 11th largest town (not including cities), being home to a population of somewhere near 168,000 (2017). The town is positioned midway between Manchester and Leeds being about 28 miles to the north-east of Manchester and 20 miles to the south-west of Leeds and is 190 miles away from London.

Huddersfield is part of the Kirklees metropolitan borough and is the largest town in the borough. Huddersfield lies in the valleys of the rivers Holme and Colne and these two rivers meet to the south of the town close to the University.

Huddersfield is a predominantly industrial area, recognized over the centuries for the production and manufacture of chemicals, textiles, electric motors, wool and sheet metal. Huddersfield has been the site of two ancient forts, a Roman fort at Slack (Outlane) and an early Iron Age hillfort at Castle Hill. Huddersfied was documented in the 1086 Domesday Book where it was referred to as Oderesfelt and Odresfeld.

Huddersfield has a proud sporting tradition and is the home and birthplace of Rugby League, which took place at the George Hotel on August 29th 1895, when 22 clubs broke away from the RFU (Rugby Football Union). Also in that year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was founded. Their football team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded some years later in 1908 and presently holds a place in the Premier League (2017), they won the FA Cup in 1922 (at Stamford Bridge) and were also famous for winning 3 successive league titles in the 1920's.
