Huddersfield a Brief Guide: A historic and huge market town situated in the county of West Yorkshire, England, in the United Kingdom, Huddersfield today is the United Kingdom's 11th largest town, boasting a population of close to 168,000 (2017). Huddersfield is placed midway between the cities of Manchester and Leeds being about 28 miles north-east of Manchester and 20 miles to the south-west of Leeds and is some 190 miles drive from London.

Huddersfield is a mostly industrial town, recognized over the centuries for the manufacture of textiles, sheet metal, wool, electric motors and chemicals. The town was the scene of much unrest during the Industrial Revolution when Luddites, fearing the loss of their livelihood as a result of the threat of mechanisation, wrecked machines and mills and in some cases even attacked textile mill owners. Huddersfield has been the site of two ancient forts, a Roman fort at Slack (near Outlane) and an early Iron Age hillfort at Castle Hill. Huddersfied was documented in the Domesday Book (written in 1086) where it was called Oderesfelt and Odresfeld.

Huddersfield has a proud tradition of sporting excellence and is the home and birthplace of Rugby League, which took place at the George Hotel on the 29th August 1895, when twenty two clubs broke away from the RFU. Also in that year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was founded. Their football club Huddersfield Town AFC was founded later in 1908 and is at present in the Premier League (2017), Huddersfield Town were victorious in the FA Cup in 1922 (at Stamford Bridge) and were the first English club to win three successive league titles (1923-24, 1924-25 and 1925-26).

The area has been the birthplace of several prominent Huddersfield including Harold Wilson, cricketer and footballer Chris Balderstone, Derek Ibbotson (athlete) and film actor James Mason.
