Huddersfield a Short Guide: A historic and huge market town situated in the county of West Yorkshire, England, UK, Huddersfield at the current time is the eleventh largest town (not including cities) in the United Kingdom, being home to a population of approximately 168,000. The town of Huddersfield is placed about halfway between the cities of Leeds and Manchester being about 20 miles to the south-west of Leeds and 28 miles north-east of Manchester and is 191 miles driving distance from London.

Huddersfield is part of the Kirklees metropolitan borough and is the biggest town in this borough. It stands in the valleys of 2 rivers, the Holme and Colne and the confluence of these two rivers is just to the south of the town near to the University of Huddersfield.

Huddersfied was documented in the Domesday Book (compiled in 1086) where it was identified as Oderesfelt and Odresfeld.

Huddersfield has a proud tradition of sporting excellence and is the home and birthplace of Rugby League, which happened at Huddersfield's George Hotel on August 29th 1895, when twenty two clubs broke away from the RFU. In the same year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was founded. Their soccer team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded some years later in 1908 and at present holds a place in the Premier League (2017), Huddersfield were winners of the FA Cup in 1922 (beating Preston North End) and were the first English club to win three successive league titles (1923-1926).
