Huddersfield a Potted History: A huge and historic market town located in the English county of West Yorkshire, United Kingdom, Huddersfield is currently the eleventh largest town in the United Kingdom, being home to a population of about 168,000 (2017). Huddersfield is placed roughly halfway between the cities of Leeds and Manchester being about 20 miles to the south-west of Leeds and 28 miles north-east of Manchester and it is 190 miles distance from London.

Huddersfield is included in the metropolitan borough of Kirklees and is the most populous settlement in the borough. Huddersfield sits in the valleys of the rivers Holme and Colne and the confluence of these two rivers is just to the south of the town beside the University of Huddersfield.

Huddersfied was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 where it was identified as Oderesfelt and Odresfeld.

Huddersfield has a proud sporting tradition and is where Rugby League was born, which happened at Huddersfield's George Hotel on the 29th August 1895, when 22 clubs broke away from the RFU in a dispute over players being paid. In the same year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was founded. Their football team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded later in 1908 and is at present in the Premier League (2017), they won the FA Cup in 1922 (1-0 against Preston North End) and also won 3 successive league titles in 1924,25 and 26).
