Review of Huddersfield: A very large and historic market town situated in the English county of West Yorkshire, In the United Kingdom, Huddersfield is currently the UK's 11th largest town (not including cities), having a population in excess of 168,000 (2017). Huddersfield is positioned midway between the cities of Manchester and Leeds being about 28 miles north-east of Manchester and 20 miles to the south-west of Leeds and is 190 miles away from London.

Huddersfield is the administrative centre of the Kirklees metropolitan borough and is the largest urban area in this borough. Huddersfield sits in the valleys of 2 rivers, the Holme and Colne and these two rivers meet to the south of the town near to the University.

Huddersfield is a largely industrial area, well known over the centuries for the manufacture of electric motors, sheet metal, textiles, wool and chemicals. Huddersfield has been the site of two ancient forts, an Iron Age hillfort at Castle Hill and a Roman fort at Slack (Outlane). Huddersfied was recorded in the Domesday Book (compiled in 1086) where it was called Odresfeld and Oderesfelt.

Huddersfield has a long tradition of sporting excellence and is the home and birthplace of Rugby League, which occurred at the George Hotel in Huddersfield on August 29th 1895, when 22 clubs broke away from the Rugby Football Union in a row over the payment of players. In that year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was established. Their soccer team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded soon after in 1908 and currently holds a place in the Premier League (2017), Huddersfield Town were the winners of the FA Cup in 1922 and were the first English club to win 3 successive league titles in the 1920's.

The town has been the birthplace of many noteworthy Huddersfield including the likes of athlete Derek Ibbotson, Chris Balderstone, film actor James Mason and former Prime Minister Harold Wilson.
