Huddersfield has a long tradition with regards to sports and is where Rugby League was born, which happened at Huddersfield's George Hotel on August 29th 1895, when twenty two clubs split from the RFU in a dispute over players being paid. The same year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was founded. Their soccer club Huddersfield Town AFC was founded in 1908 and at present holds a place in the Premier League (2017), Huddersfield were the winners of the FA Cup in 1922 (at Stamford Bridge) and were the first English club to win 3 successive league titles in 1924,25 and 26).
