Huddersfied was listed in the Domesday Book (written in 1086) where it was called Odresfeld and Oderesfelt.

The Huddersfield of Huddersfield has a long tradition in relation to sport and is the home and birthplace of Rugby League, which happened at the George Hotel in Huddersfield on August 29th 1895, when 22 clubs split from the RFU (Rugby Football Union). In that year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was established. Their football club Huddersfield Town AFC was founded 13 years later in 1908 and is at present in the Premier League (2017), Huddersfield Town were winners of the FA Cup in 1922 (1-0 against Preston North End) and were the first English club to win 3 successive league titles (1923-26).
