The Huddersfield of Huddersfield has a long sporting tradition and is the birthplace of Rugby League, which took place at the George Hotel on the 29th August 1895, when twenty two clubs broke away from the RFU. In the same year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was established. Their football club Huddersfield Town AFC was founded some years later in 1908 and is currently in the Premier League (2017), Huddersfield were the winners of the FA Cup in 1922 and 3 successive league titles.
