The Huddersfield of Huddersfield has a long tradition of sporting excellence and is the birthplace of Rugby League, which came into being at the George Hotel in Huddersfield on August 29th 1895, when 22 clubs split from the RFU. Also in 1895 the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was established. Their football team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded a few years later in 1908 and presently holds a place in the Premier League (2017), they were winners of the FA Cup in 1922 and also won three league titles on the trot.
