The Huddersfield of Huddersfield has a proud tradition in relation to sport and is the home and birthplace of Rugby League, which came into being at the George Hotel in Huddersfield on the 29th August 1895, when twenty two clubs broke away from the Rugby Football Union in a disagreement over players being paid. Also in that year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was founded. Their football club Huddersfield Town AFC was founded 13 years later in 1908 and is at present in the Premier League (2017), Huddersfield were victorious in the FA Cup in 1922 (beating Preston North End 1-0) and also won 3 successive league titles.
