About Huddersfield: A historic and large market town located in the county of West Yorkshire, England, UK, Huddersfield is at present the United Kingdom's eleventh largest town (not including cities), being home to a population of just over 168,000 (2017). The town of Huddersfield is positioned about halfway between the cities of Leeds and Manchester being about 20 miles south-west of Leeds and 28 miles to the north-east of Manchester and it is 191 miles drive from London.

Huddersfied was mentioned in the Domesday Book (compiled in 1086) where it was called Odresfeld and Oderesfelt.

Huddersfield has a long sporting tradition and is the birthplace of Rugby League, which took place at the George Hotel in Huddersfield on the 29th August 1895, when 22 clubs split from the RFU (Rugby Football Union). Also in that year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was founded. Their football team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded 13 years later in 1908 and presently holds a place in the Premier League (2017), Huddersfield were victorious in the FA Cup in 1922 (beating Preston North End 1-0) and were the first English club to win 3 successive league titles.
