Review of Huddersfield: A historic and huge market town situated in the county of West Yorkshire, England, UK, Huddersfield is actually the eleventh largest town (not including cities) in the United Kingdom, boasting a population of close to 168,000. The town of Huddersfield is positioned midway between Leeds and Manchester being about 20 miles to the south-west of Leeds and 28 miles to the north-east of Manchester and is some 191 miles from London.

Huddersfield has been the site of two ancient forts, a Roman fort at Slack Lane (Outlane) and an Iron Age hillfort at Castle Hill. Huddersfied was mentioned in the 1086 Domesday Book where it was called Odresfeld and Oderesfelt.

The Huddersfield of Huddersfield has a long sporting tradition and is the birthplace of Rugby League, which took place at Huddersfield's George Hotel on the 29th August 1895, when 22 clubs broke away from the RFU (Rugby Football Union). Also in that year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was established. Their soccer team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded some years later in 1908 and is presently in the Premier League (2017), they were victorious in the FA Cup in 1922 (1-0 against Preston North End) and also won 3 successive league titles.

The area has been the birthplace of numerous noteworthy Huddersfield including film actor James Mason, Chris Balderstone (footballer and cricketer), Harold Wilson and athlete Derek Ibbotson.
