Review of Huddersfield: A very large and historic market town located in the English county of West Yorkshire, In the United Kingdom, Huddersfield is presently the 11th largest town (not including cities) in the UK, being home to a population of around 168,000. Huddersfield is positioned roughly midway between Manchester and Leeds being about 28 miles north-east of Manchester and 20 miles to the south-west of Leeds and is 190 miles away from London.

Huddersfield is within the Kirklees metropolitan borough and is the most populous town in this borough. Huddersfield stands in the valleys of two rivers, the Colne and Holme and these two rivers meet to the south of the town close to the University of Huddersfield.

Huddersfield is a largely industrial town, renowned over the years for the manufacturing of chemicals, sheet metal, wool, textiles and electric motors. Huddersfield has been the site of two ancient forts, a Roman fort at Slack Lane (Outlane) and an Iron Age hillfort at Castle Hill. Huddersfied was listed in the Domesday Book (compiled in 1086) where it was identified as Oderesfelt and Odresfeld.

Huddersfield has a long tradition in relation to sport and is where Rugby League was born, which came into being at the George Hotel on August 29th 1895, when 22 clubs broke away from the RFU in a disagreement over the payment of players. Also in 1895 the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was established. Their soccer club Huddersfield Town AFC was founded soon after in 1908 and is currently in the Premier League (2017), they were the winners of the FA Cup in 1922 (beating Preston North End) and 3 successive league titles (1923-1926).
