About Huddersfield: An enormous and historic market town situated in the county of West Yorkshire, England, UK, Huddersfield today is the United Kingdom's eleventh largest town, boasting a population of somewhere near 168,000 (2017). The town is positioned halfway between Manchester and Leeds being about 28 miles north-east of Manchester and 20 miles south-west of Leeds and it is approximately 191 miles distance from London.

Huddersfield is part of the metropolitan borough of Kirklees and is the most populous town in the borough. Huddersfield lies in the valleys of two rivers, the Holme and Colne and these 2 rivers meet to the south of the town near to the University of Huddersfield.

Huddersfield is a predominantly industrial town, well known over the centuries for the production and manufacture of wool, sheet metal, chemicals, textiles and electric motors. Huddersfield has been the site of two ancient forts, a Roman fort at Slack (near Outlane) and an early Iron Age hillfort at Castle Hill. Huddersfied was mentioned in the 1086 Domesday Book where it was identified as Odresfeld and Oderesfelt.

Huddersfield has a proud tradition with regards to sports and is the home and birthplace of Rugby League, which came into being at the George Hotel on August 29th 1895, when twenty two clubs broke away from the RFU. In the same year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was founded. Their football team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded a few years later in 1908 and is at present in the Premier League (2017), Huddersfield were winners of the FA Cup in 1922 (beating Preston North End 1-0) and were also famous for winning three successive league titles in the 1920's.
