Huddersfied was listed in the Domesday Book of 1086 where it was called Oderesfelt and Odresfeld.

Huddersfield has a proud sporting tradition and is the birthplace of Rugby League, which occurred at Huddersfield's George Hotel on August 29th 1895, when twenty two clubs split from the RFU (Rugby Football Union). The same year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was founded. Their football team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded 13 years later in 1908 and at present holds a place in the Premier League (2017), Huddersfield Town won the FA Cup in 1922 and were also famous for winning 3 successive league titles.
