Huddersfield a Potted History: A historic and large market town located in the county of West Yorkshire, England, in the United Kingdom, Huddersfield is presently the United Kingdom's 11th largest town, having a population of about 168,000. The town of Huddersfield is positioned roughly midway between Manchester and Leeds being about 28 miles to the north-east of Manchester and 20 miles south-west of Leeds and is approximately 191 miles from London.

Huddersfield is within the metropolitan borough of Kirklees and is the largest settlement in that borough. It sits in the valleys of the River Holme and the River Colne and the confluence of these two rivers is just to the south of the town close to the University.

The town has a long sporting tradition and is the home and birthplace of Rugby League, which occurred at Huddersfield's George Hotel on the 29th August 1895, when 22 clubs split from the Rugby Football Union in a dispute over players being paid. Also in 1895 the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was established. Their football club Huddersfield Town AFC was founded soon after in 1908 and is presently in the Premier League (2017), they were victorious in the FA Cup in 1922 (at Stamford Bridge) and were the first English club to win 3 successive league titles.

The town has been the birthplace of various prominent Huddersfield including James Mason, Chris Balderstone, Derek Ibbotson and former PM Harold Wilson.
