The Huddersfield of Huddersfield has a proud tradition in relation to sport and is the home and birthplace of Rugby League, which took place at Huddersfield's George Hotel on the 29th August 1895, when 22 clubs split from the RFU in a disagreement over players being paid. Also in 1895 the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was founded. Their soccer team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded a few years later in 1908 and at present holds a place in the Premier League (2017), Huddersfield were the winners of the FA Cup in 1922 (1-0 against Preston North End) and also won 3 successive league titles (1923-24, 1924-25 and 1925-26).
