About Huddersfield: An immense and historic market town situated in the county of West Yorkshire, England, in the UK, Huddersfield at the current time is the United Kingdom's 11th largest town, housing a population in excess of 168,000. The town of Huddersfield is positioned midway between Manchester and Leeds being about 28 miles north-east of Manchester and 20 miles south-west of Leeds and is 190 miles from London.

Huddersfield is within the Kirklees metropolitan borough and is the largest settlement in this borough. It lies in the valleys of two rivers, the River Colne and the River Holme and the confluence of these 2 rivers is just to the south of the town adjacent to the University.

Huddersfield is a mainly industrial town, well known over the centuries for the production and manufacture of textiles, chemicals, sheet metal, electric motors and wool. It was the scene of significant unrest during the Industrial Revolution when a group known as the Luddites, afraid of losing their livelihood owing to ever increasing mechanisation, destroyed mills and weaving machinery and even attacked textile mill owners. The area has been settled for upwards of 4,000 years, beginning with Neolithic man and advancing through Brigantes, Romans, Anglo-Saxons and Normans to modern times. Huddersfield has been the site of two ancient forts, an early Iron Age hillfort at Castle Hill and a Roman fort at Slack (Outlane). Huddersfied was listed in the 1086 Domesday Book where it was referred to as Odresfeld and Oderesfelt.

The Huddersfield of Huddersfield has a long sporting tradition and is the home and birthplace of Rugby League, which came into being at Huddersfield's George Hotel on August 29th 1895, when 22 clubs split from the RFU (Rugby Football Union). In that year the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League team was established. Their football team Huddersfield Town AFC was founded 13 years later in 1908 and at present holds a place in the Premier League (2017), they won the FA Cup in 1922 (1-0 against Preston North End) and were the first English club to win 3 successive league titles (1923-24, 1924-25 and 1925-26).
